2003: Spirit, one of the two rovers of NASA’s Mars Exploration Rover Mission was launched.

1938: Rahul Bajaj, an Indian billionaire businessman, and philanthropist.

1938: Vasanti N. Bhat-Nayak, Indian mathematician and academic

1955: Prakash Padukone, a former Indian badminton player.

1960: Nandamuri Balakrishna, an Indian film actor and politician.

1972: Sundar Pichai, an Indian-American business executive. He is the chief executive officer of Alphabet Inc. and its subsidiary Google.

1977: Mika Singh, an Indian singer, and performer.

1836: André-Marie Ampère, a French physicist and mathematician.

1957: Bhai Vir Singh, great Punjabi poet, novelist, social reformer, musician, humanitarian and Padma Bhushan awardee, died.

1959: Tyagmurti Goswami Ganeshdutt, the social worker, died near Hardwar.

1966: MIG aeroplanes were designed at Nashik.

1976: Adolph Zukor, one of the three founders of Paramount Pictures.

1987: Jeevan, the famous Hindi film actor, died.

2006: Gulabdas Broker, a Gujarati language author from India.
