Indore, a six-time consecutive champion, maintained its impressive streak by jointly securing the top spot. However, Surat, a major port city, emerged as a strong contender, showcasing significant progress in urban sanitation and waste management. This joint victory highlights the growing competition and commitment towards cleanliness across various Indian cities.

The award ceremony, held in New Delhi and hosted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), saw President Droupadi Murmu conferring accolades to 13 distinguished awardees across various cleanliness categories.

Beyond the top cities, the awards recognized outstanding efforts in other categories:

  • Cities with a population less than 1 lakh: Sasvad, Patan, and Lonavala emerged as the frontrunners, demonstrating the potential of smaller cities to achieve exceptional cleanliness standards.
  • Cleanest Cantonment Board: Mhow Cantonment Board in Madhya Pradesh received recognition for its dedication to maintaining clean and hygienic cantonment areas.
  • Cleanest Ganga Towns: Varanasi and Prayagraj were acknowledged for their remarkable efforts in keeping the towns along the holy Ganges River clean.
  • Best Performing States: Maharashtra clinched the top position for its comprehensive approach to urban sanitation, followed by Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
