1294: Allauddin Khilji conquered Devagiri fort and the Yadav Empire.

1919: Charlie Chaplin, along with three others, formed the United Artists Company.

1948: After the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, Vinayak Savarkar was arrested due to security restrictions.

1952: First general elections held in independent India.

1994: Markale massacres, more than 60 people are killed and some 200 wounded as a mortar shell explodes in a downtown marketplace in Sarajevo.

1997: The so-called Big Three banks in Switzerland announce the creation of a $71 million fund to aid Holocaust survivors and their families.
2000: Russian forces massacre at least 60 civilians in the Novye Aldi suburb of Grozny, Chechnya.

2003: Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced that PSLV C-4, a meteorological satellite launched by India in 2002, has been named after astronaut Kalpana Chawla.

2004: Rebels from the Revolutionary Artibonite Resistance Front capture the city of Gonaïves, starting the 2004 Haiti rebellion.

2007: Sunita Williams of Indian descent became the woman to spend the most time in space.

2008: A major tornado outbreak across the Southern United States kills 57.
2020:United States President Donald Trump is acquitted by the United States Senate in his impeachment trial.

1936: K. S. Nissar Ahmed, Indian poet and academic

1949: Neela Satyanarayanan, the first female State Election Commissioner in Maharashtra.
