1861: Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was an Indian civil engineer and statesman and the 19th Diwan of Mysore. He was also an Indian engineer, scholar, and Bharat Ratna Laureate.
1876: Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay was a Bengali novelist and short story writer of the early 20th century.
1891: Chempakaraman Pillai was an Indian-born political activist and revolutionary.
1897: Ibrahim Ismail Chundrigar was the sixth Prime Minister of Pakistan.
1909: Conjeevaram Natarajan Annadurai was an Indian politician who served as 1st Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
