1660: Battle in Pavanakhinda.

1929: The revolutionary Jatindranath Das started a 63-day historic hunger strike that led to his death.

1955: 28-year-old Ruth Ellis was hanged for killing her lover David Blakely. She was the last woman to be hanged in the United Kingdom

2011: The country’s financial capital, Mumbai, was rocked by triple blasts. The blasts took place at Jhaveri Bazaar, Opera House, and Dadar in Mumbai.

2011: United Nations Security Council Resolution 1999 is adopted, which admits South Sudan to member status of the United Nations.

2013: Typhoon Soulik kills at least nine people and affects more than 160 million in East China and Taiwan.

2016: Prime Minister of the United Kingdom David Cameron resigns, and is succeeded by Theresa May.

1982: Master Saleem, an Indian singer from Punjab, India.

1660: Bajiprabhu Deshpande sacrificed his life for Swarajya by fighting Pavankhind.

1793: French revolutionary Jean-Paul Marat passed away.

1969: philosopher, thinker, yogi, freedom fighter and writer Maharshi Nyayaratna Dhundiraj Shastri Vinod passed away. (Born 12 January 1902)

1980: Botswana’s first President, Sreetse Khama, dies

1990: Sports critic and commentator Ardeshir Fudorji Sohrabji alias Bobby Taleir Khan passed away.

1994: Dhrupad singer, composer teacher, Pandit Krishna Gundopant Ginde passed away. (Born December 26, 1925)

1995: Ashapurna Devi, a prominent Indian novelist, and poet.

2000: Death of Indira Sant, recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award, writer and writer. (Born 4 January 1914)

2009: Hindi Marathi film actor Nilu Phule passes away

2010: Manohari Singh, Indian saxophonist and composer (b. 1931)
