An I.P.S officer works for both the Central and State Governments. He serves the State Government in various capacities ranging from Assistant Superintendent of Police at the beginning of his career to the Director General of Police (who is the head of the police force in his state) at the stage of retirement.

Age Limit

A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the 1st of August of examination year.
– Age limit relaxation upto a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a Scheduled Caste (SC) or a Scheduled Tribe (ST).

Educational Qualifications

No of Attempts

General category candidates are allowed upto 6 attempts. The OBC candidates can appear upto 9 times, SC/ST candidates have been allowed unlimited attempts. or physically handicapped candidates the age limit is 42, 45 and 47 years for General, OBC and SC/ST category respectively while the number of attempts is 9 for General and OBC and unlimited for SC/SC category.
