1835, 1st December: Hans Christian Andersen’s first book of fairy tales published.
1921: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, great nationalist leader, social reformer and freedom fighter was arrested by the British police for six months and sent to jail.
1928: The first talkie filmshow, named as ‘British Talkies’ , was released on December 1, 1928, at Globe Theatres, Calcutta.
1931: The Second Round Table conference that began in London ended. Congress was solely represented by Gandhi and Muslim League by Sir Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam, etc. Two committees were setup to carry out the work of the conference on Federal Structure and Minorities. Gandhi was the member of both committees. He claimed that being the sole representative of the Congress, he represented the whole of India. Quaid-e-Azam replied that Muslims are a separate nation. Sir Shafi demanded that the 14 points of Quaid-e-Azam be incorporated in future constitution.
1932: A round-table conference on India fails to reach an agreement at London.
1933: First passenger airline launched between Kolkata and Dhaka in India.
1942: No. 8 Squadron was raised meanwhile, absorbing the remaining coastal defence flight personnel.
1946: Australia compiled 645 vs India at Gabba. Bradman made 187 runs.
1947: India all out for 58 vs Australia at Gabba.
1948: S. S. Apte founded Hindustan Samachar, a multilingual news organization.
1955: Nikita Khrushchev delivers speech condemning British colonialism.
1959: 12 nations signed a treaty for the peaceful scientific use of Antarctica.
1959: First color photo of Earth taken from space.
1960: Air Marshal Aspy Merwan Engineer DFC became the Air Officer Commanding, India Command. He was in this office till 31/07/1964.
1963: Nagaland became the 16th state of India.
1964: Malawi, Malta, and Zambia joined the United Nations.
1964: Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University established.
1965: Indian Border Security Force (BSF) was formed.
1970: T. Swaminathan was appointed as the Cabinet Secretary of India. He held this office till 02-11-1972.
1973: Papua New Guinea gained independence from Australia.
1976: Angola became a member of the United Nations.
1976: General Zia ur Rehman declared himself President in Bangladesh.
1981: AIDS virus was first identified.
1988: Benazir Bhutto became the first woman Prime Minister of Pakistan.
1991: Beginning of AIDS Awareness Day.
1992: Judy Leyden, a British woman, set a new height by flying a hang glider from an altitude of 3970 meters (13025 feet).
1997: In the Indian state of Bihar, Ranvir Sena attacked the CPI (ML) Party Unity stronghold Lakshmanpur-Bathe, killing 63 lower caste people.
1999: India’s first woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was named Woman of the Millennium.
2000: Hornbill Festival began in Nagaland every year from 1st to 7th December.
2000: United Nations Security Council endorsed an armed ban on the Taliban.
2002: Australia won the Ashes Test series for the eighth consecutive time from England.
2006: Nepal adopted the new national anthem.
2019: First known case of COVID-19 appeared.

1886: Mahendra Pratap Singh, an Indian freedom fighter, journalist, writer, revolutionary, President in the Provisional Government of India.
1894: Bhim Sen Sachar, freedom fighter, leader and Chief Minister of Punjab, was born.
1900: Chidambaranar Thiru Thamizaringar, great author, journalist and homeopath, was born at Sirukadambur, Tamil Nadu.
1901: Kothainayaki Ammal, a Tamil writer, novelist, and journalist.
1911: Dayarnav Raghunath Kopardekar, founder of “Indrayani Sahitya Prakashan Sanstha”, was born.
