World Civil Defence Day is celebrated on 1st March every year across the world to commemorate the entry into force of the ICDO Constitution as an intergovernmental organisation in 1972.
The day was created by the decision of the International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO) General Assembly in 1990. Theme: “Together with civil defence against disasters”.

1498: Vasco de Gama landed at what is now Mozambique on his way to India.

1562: In Vassy, France, Catholics massacred over 1,000 Huguenots. The event started the First War of Religion.

1640: Britain got permission to open a trade center in Madras.

1692: In Salem Village, in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, the Salem witch trials began. Four women were the first to be charged.

1775: The Purandhar Pact was signed between Nana Fadnavis and Britisher.

1803: Ohio became the 17th state of the United States.

1872: Yellowstone National Park, the world’s first national park, was established.

1893: Nikola Tesla demonstrated the first radio.

1907: Establishment of the Tata Iron and Steel Company at Jamshedpur.

1908: Tata Iron & Steel Company was the first steel company to be established in India

1919: Mahatma Gandhi announced to launch Satyagraha against Rowlatt Act.

1927: Ratnagiri Gandhiji met Savarkar and discussed it.

1946: The Bank of England is Nationalized

1947: The International Monetary Fund began its operations.

1948: Established of the Guwahati High Court.

1954: The United States conducted a second hydrogen bomb test at Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean. The blast was 600 times more powerful than the one at Hiroshima.

1962: Gaya University renamed as Magadh University.

1971: 5th General Election of India begins

1995: Yahoo is incorporated

1998: Titanic became the first film to gross more than $ 1 billion worldwide.

1998: South Indian singer M. S. Subbalakshmi was awarded the Bharat Ratna.

1980: Shahid Afridi, a Pakistani international cricketer.

1983: Mary Kom, an Indian amateur boxer.

1994: Justin Bieber, a Canadian singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist.
