1792: The Treaty of Seringapatam (also called Srirangapatinam or Srirangapatna), Ended the Third Anglo-Mysore War. Its signatories included Lord Cornwallis on behalf of the British East India Company, representatives of the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Maratha Empire, and Tipu Sultan, the ruler of Mysore
1801: First Ordnance manufacturing factory established in India.
1850: American Express was founded by Henry Wells and William Fargo.
1922: Mahatma Gandhi jailed for six years for the non-cooperation movement.
1944: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Azad Hind Sena entered the country through Burma and defeated the British on the Indian border.
1965: Alexei Leonov became the first astronaut to walk in 12 minutes into space.
2008: Ratan Tata, President of Tata Group, was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Science at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
2008: Sunil Bharti Mittal, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bharti Enterprises, became the first Indian to join America’s Distinguished Entrepreneur Academy.
